But let’s talk. I’ve been talking for months. The shape, the cut, the meaning, the story. Told so many times it’s like we are playing the telephone game & the words just got jumbled up. So here goes nothing right!?

So to know where we are going we have to know where we’ve been. 2014, Fragment, remastered program started. Brand Jordan plans to recreate retros as close to spect as possible. A promise & plan that spanned 8 years. With tweaks & improvements yearly, ask @nightwing2303 , and we arrive at the next huge overhaul. Fire red 3s, Chicago 2s, Cardinal 7s, & our prize and joy Chicago AJ1s.

Yearly we’ve seen the shape change dramatically (not counting 85s for those are a separate line altogether). The toe box, cap, heel, & collars are fitted differently & have had minor changes since the original program started. The launch of this shoe marks huge changes. Initially, the plan was to give us a 1985 feel with a modern design & fit. So 95 was the year they were going for. It’s truly a blend between 85,95, & first remastered 

Echo chamber talk, a lot of folks wrote these off due to the faux aging. The customizers wanted their credit, and some of the vintage curator pages wanted their credit also for the original findings of the clippings included in the paper. WHO bright this feel forward all these years? Nike isn’t new to it, but that’s beside the point when your business is built off of customization of that aging process. Your voice is heard. I understand.

Now to the changes from V1 to V2s. The wings logo is embossed. The toe box is slightly wider. pairs.

The swoosh ending is slightly enlarged. Insole (which changed this year before the updated shape). Less use of polyurethane coating. Not sure how much that’s going to play into the longevity of pairs in the future. Double laced in shoe vs attached. Rounded toe cap. Slightly trimmed midsole. The shoe was constructed to be skimmed down also, so the fit is a bit more snug, not counting the new insoles. I did walk a few miles in them with no issues. They are super comfortable!

The receipt!!! This wasn’t meant to be found until you opened the box & took everything out. Yes if it’s on top someone opened your box. It should be placed underneath all the paper at the bottom of the box. The Sandy Bros are two wonderful gentlemen who were a part of this project alongside two others that are mentioned to round out this project. I’m sure there are a few others but anonymity is important.

The vintage box was a super dope touch. But refer back to the echo chamber section for why that stings a bit for customizers.

In closing, I do have to deduct points for the vintage look. It’s dope, don’t get me wrong. But it’s not my bag. Along with the build-up (some blame me for this). I hate hype but understand it. Objectively speaking I can say the hype overshadowed the release making a lot of the activations hit or miss.. including the perceived botching of the SNKRS release. But it is a Chicago. It’s going to get its respect as such on that alone.

I’m giving them a B+. It’s my favorite Colorway remixed to a vintage feel. My only thing is, how long with these last? Again thank you to @shoepalace and the JB team behind this pair for making this such an easy write-up and enjoyable experience.
